More Than a Café. A Journey.

Oh Natuurlik was never meant to be just another restaurant.

It began as a personal journey of healing.

After years of working in the food industry, chasing success while neglecting health, our founder, Evert Minnie, found himself facing severe anxiety, panic attacks, burnout, and declining health. What followed was a life-changing decision to step away from everything familiar and begin searching for a different way of living.

That search led him across South Africa, learning from permaculture farms, food forests, wellness communities, and people who understood the connection between food, health, purpose, and nature. It was during this time that he discovered a simple truth:

Real food has the power to change lives.

Learning From Nature

Living and working on one of South Africa’s pioneering permaculture farms taught us that food is about far more than calories.

Food can heal.

Food can connect people.

Food can bring communities together.

Many of the recipes that would eventually become customer favourites were born during this season of learning. The original Earth Burger, our focus on whole ingredients, and our passion for fresh juices all have their roots in those early years spent growing, harvesting, cooking, and sharing meals with others.

Humble Beginnings

In 2015, the business that would eventually become Oh Natuurlik started as a small market stall called Earth Forest at the Yellowwood Forest Market in Morgan’s Bay. Every Saturday began before sunrise, making coconut milk by hand, loading equipment into a vehicle, and setting up a simple stall built from recycled timber and determination.

There was no large investment.

No fancy equipment.

Just a dream and a belief that healthy food could be both nourishing and delicious.

In 2017, that dream became a small shop in East London. The first sale was a Peanut Butter Bomb Smoothie — a smoothie that remains on our menu today.

Through Challenges and Faith

The journey wasn’t always easy.

There were successes, setbacks, business failures, debt, personal loss, and moments when it seemed like the dream was over. But through those difficult seasons came a deeper understanding of faith, resilience, and purpose.

Why We Exist

Today, Oh Natuurlik exists for one simple reason:

To inspire healthier, purpose-driven lives through real food, authentic connection, and wellness that is accessible to everyone.

Every burger, smoothie, wrap, bowl, juice, coffee, and meal we serve is made with this mission in mind.

We source our produce as locally and organically as possible.

We avoid unnecessary preservatives and additives.

We strive to make choices that are better for our customers, our communities, and the environment.

Most importantly, we serve every guest with love.

Looking Ahead

What started as a small market stall has grown into multiple locations, a growing wellness community, cold-pressed juice programmes, smoothie boxes, healthy meal offerings, and an exciting vision for the future.

Our goal is bigger than opening restaurants.

Our vision is to inspire people to make the switch to healthier, more purposeful living — one meal, one juice, one conversation, and one community at a time.
